I am dedicated to improving African Americans' condition.

What I want you to know about me…

I am a miracle. My twin and I had a 0-20% chance of surviving when we were born almost 10 weeks premature. I am here for a reason.

I rose out of a childhood of poverty, gunshots, and drug dealers to become a self-made, debt-free millionaire. I worked two full-time jobs for 3 years. During this time, I was promoted twice and won an award for the best performance in the Southwest region.

I became a General Manager at 20, turning around an undesired, underperforming restaurant. With the help of my team of 40, we created nearly $1M in YOY revenue and achieved solid profit, turnover, and retention results.

I walked away from a lucrative technology career during a pandemic to make a bigger impact. My clients have something in front of them that both excites and scares the hell out of them. I help them walk towards it with courage. I walk my talk.

I invest in my own growth at a high level. Since 2018, I’ve invested over $130,000 in mastering my craft. This includes hiring my own coach, achieving certifications, attending conferences, and other developmental experiences.

Shermain’s “official” bio…

Shermain Melton is a powerful, raw, and courageous truth-teller. An Executive Coach, consultant, teacher, and trusted advisor for over two decades. A Black, Christian gay man whose story is one of determination, authenticity, and growth. He hid a part of his identity for over 24 years because he feared being abandoned by the people he loved, alone, and that his career would be negatively impacted. He faced discrimination and poverty yet found the courage to create a new destiny, including financial freedom. He is a problem-solver by nature and an Author, International Speaker, and Leadership Coach by career.

He is gifted at staying level-headed when things are uncertain. And in complex situations, he knows how to focus on understanding the real problem. When leaders face uncertain times and complex challenges—and they need the courage to overcome them—He’s the person they call.

Shermain supports leaders who want to be more visible, authentic, and confident to amplify their impact positively.  His clients are entrepreneurs, business owners, C-Suite leaders, pastors, professionals, single moms, educators, and engineers. They are masters at hiding the parts of themselves that they don’t want to be seen, they are different, even weird, and this can be quite lonely at times.  His clients have created success by having the courage to intentionally walk their own path and aren’t afraid to deliver hard truths to people as they see it as a form of love.  They are high achievers, have paid the price for it, and sometimes carry shame and guilt.  Deep down, they want to love themselves more and envy truly happy people.  They are generally upbeat, and this can be quite draining on them.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems and an MBA. Shermain hosts the Courage to Impact podcast, in which he coaches and inspires his audience to be more courageous. He is a certified Professional Certified Coach (PCC) through the International Coaching Federation (ICF), is a Certified Professional Coach (CPC) through the Institute of Professional Excellence in Coaching (IPEC), a certified MTBI Practitioner through The Myers-Briggs Company, and a Certified Professional Leader through PeopleTek Coaching. Born in Orlando, he lives in the Phoenix desert and enjoys time spent with his family and friends.

The Real Shermain…

I am Black, Gay, and Christian.

I hid most of myself for most of my life. If who I am doesn’t resonate with you, that’s OK. That’s why I’m here. To help you be your authentic self, increase your visibility in the process, and grow your confidence.

I sometimes wonder if God created me as a joke. He gave me this big heart to love others so that I could experience the depth of not belonging. All I ever wanted was to belong.

I was told I couldn’t sit next to someone at church because of the color of my skin.

Coming from poverty and feeling alone and lost, I chose to cultivate the courage to create a new destiny and identity for myself.

Now, I serve and teach what I wish I had for myself growing up. I will help you confidently and authentically live your truth.

I’ve created a community where you can belong, be yourself, be supported, be accountable, and cultivate your own courage so that you can create the positive impact you came here to give yourself and the world.

Going Deeper.…

What I don’t want you to know about me is…

I’ve had my heart broken, I sometimes wonder why I’m still here. I had a 10% chance of living when I was born, and sometimes I feel like I’m wasting the time I’ve been given. Looking back at my life, I notice that I have always chosen the more difficult and scary path - The Other Path.

I have been hiding for most of my life. I am black, gay, and a Christian. It took me over 24 years to acknowledge my truth of being gay and understand that I am here for a reason and that telling my story will set me free and give others hope. I am not a mistake, and God only creates perfection. I am perfect in His eyes. I’ve gone from shame to being authentically me.

I grew up in poverty, and now I have financial success. But it came at a price. I did get myself out of debt, but I’ll never be able to get the missed birthday parties and family dinners back.

It took me over 12 years to complete my undergraduate degree. I was working full-time, changed my major, and stuck with it. I now hold an MBA and multiple professional coaching certifications.

I’ve failed at many different things. Between 2009 and 2017, I took 13 technology exams. I failed 6 and passed 7. I rose to Senior Engineer in a Fortune 100 company. Failure isn’t fatal.

I've spent most of my life looking for somewhere I could be seen, heard, valued, connected, and loved. I want to belong.

I don’t know that I fully trust myself enough to let others in completely.

I have moments of certainty that I am making an impact and will be a successful entrepreneur. I also have moments of doubt, insecurity, and an almost paralyzing amount of fear.

I choose to be courageous daily and provoke others to do the same for themselves. That’s my mission.

There’s freedom, expansion, and opportunity on the other side of courage.

I gotta be me!

My Commitment to You

I am not here to entertain you or to make your transformational journey easy. Transformation is hard. It requires courage, commitment, and uncomfortable action.
